More clarity arrived after Barça’s title-clinching win over Espanyol. Speaking to the press, Szczesny admitted his hesitation stems not only from family matters but also from a personal reflection on his role next season.
“If I extend my contract, it will be because I’m convinced I’m a guarantee of quality on the bench next season,” he said.
“So I have to decide because this is also a new situation for me. I have to assess whether I’m capable of accepting it mentally, of supporting Marc and helping him throughout the season ,” he added.
However, the fact of the matter remains – Maria will play a crucial role in deciding whether or not Szczesny should continue at Barcelona next season.
