Everything suggests Real Madrid will trigger Carreras’ exit clause, which is set at €50 million. Real Madrid were initially keen on lowering the price tag for the Spaniard, but it appears negotiations with Benfica haven’t been as productive.
A figure of €50 million is indeed a fortune, even for Real Madrid. But the club are serious about adding more depth and quality in defence. As such, they are willing to meet Carreras’ release clause.
Carreras is expected to join Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen in the list of defenders who have already signed for Real Madrid, although the club are still yet to confirm the deal for Alexander-Arnold.

The club are now expected to shift their attention towards midfield, where they have already identified a few key targets including Stuttgart’s rising star, Angelo Stiller .
